11 June

Mark Hannaway - Combat Rock's original singer and founder - has rejoined the band! Having been working overseas for over three years Mark has returned to Scotland and come back into the fold. Our immense thanks and appreciation to Jon Zip for all his help in the last few months.

17 April 2010

We played our first gig with Jon Zip on Easter Sunday in Jack Daniels Bar in Motherwell. Since he only knew 9 songs we played for only half an hour. But we got a great reaction form the busy pub with many young ladies throwing their sodden panties at us! We're now learning a whole bunch of 'new' songs and looking forward to our next outing. We promise to wash all of the above panties and return them if the young ladies come looking for them.....

2010

big changes this year. at the end of 2009 we lost both our drummer and our singer. now most bands would probably have packed up and called it a day.... but we're stubborn buggers and Fred and myself decided to give it a go with two new people.

we found a new drummer quite quickly - his name is des. he played in the king tut's strummer night nad we immediately knew he was the man for the job.

then we had the barras to play in march, supporting the great slf again. we still had no singer confirmed so we enlisted the help of pascal from 'take the fifth'. paz is an old hand at this having stepped in once before in 2008 so it was no problemo for him. he was excellent, of course, and we all had a good time. i'll stick a video from that gig on our video page soon.

after that gig we came back down to earth with the realiseation that we still had to find a good singer. along came jon! he is a singer/guitarist having played in one of glasgow's original punk bands for the late 70's - the zips. he is a mad clash fan and seemed totally right for the job.

his first gig was on easter sunday in jack daniels in motherwell. we only played nine songs but we went down a storm. the new combat rock had arrived.

we're now going to embark on a bunch of rehearsals to get back up to speed. we'll soon be playing up and down the country once more - watch this space!!!

ps on a sad note - take the fifth have decided to call it a day after many years' service to the cause. we take our collective hats off to the boys in worcester and hope to see them soon when we start playing on all their old haunts!!!

2010 - happy new year to all

17 dec 09

we have to announce the departure of our drummer, Stuart. the band is sorry to see him go but he has decided to move on to pastures new. we understand he will be joining the recently reformed 'black lace' who plan to go out and tour all their old hits including the most excellent 'agadoo' and the almost legendary 'bumpsadaisy, show us yer tits'.

having been with the band since 2002 we are very sad to lose stuart but we have decided to continue with a new drummer - or maybe a drum machine (they are so much easier to control!! plus they don't answer back or get drunk!!)

fare ye well stu - we sincerely hope you find what you're looking for.

See you all in the liquid room in edinburgh!!

6 oct 08

last night we played with stiff little fingers in the liquid room

there'S A COUPLE OF videoS from that gig up NOW- CLICK HERE.

we're back in the liquid room on 28th november - see you all there.

8 sep 08

we had a great time at the Carling academy on saturday. apart from mick's amp breaking down after four songs it went exceptionally well. the crowd appeared to embrace our new singer - hud. he played and sang like he'd always been there!

they've already asked for us to come back. until then see you at the liquid room, edinburgh.
tattoo removal

The forum is back! Finally. It should be OK from now on but you will need to register again. Sorry about that but it was the best way to fix it.

1 Aug 08

There is a problem with the forum! We'll try and fix it but if not then we'll shut it down and start a new one. Sorry if you've had problems accessing it.

Next year we're thinking about doing a special, one-off gig. Something unique - never been done before. Can't tell you just now but it will be a cracker. Think about it...... next year is 2009!

NEW LINE-UP

20 May 08

Well, we've finally found a singer to replace the replacement who replaced the previous replacement.....

You can check him out at our gig in the Carling Academy, Glasgow on Saturday 6th September. We're on at about 8pm so don't be late.

24 April 08

Unfortunately our singer didn't work out so we had to 'borrow' Paz from "Take the 5th" for our Barrowlands gig with SLF - cheers Paz! We had a great night and a fantastic reaction from the crowd. We're about to audition two potential singers so we're hoping to get back on the road very soon. Watch this space for more info and upcoming gigs.

Click here to see a mobile phone video of us at the Barras this year (courtesy of PinkPanties).

2008

19 Nov 07

We finally found a new frontman/singer to replace Mark. We've been rehearsing with the new guy who you can see in King Tut's on 22nd December.

25 Dec 06

Well, King Tuts was a complete fuck up! after only four songs the gig was stopped due to crowd trouble. apparently some guys were causing a lot of hassle in the crowd although we don't know why the security couldn't take care of it - that's their job innit!??!

consequently many people, including us, were extremely pissed off. it seems a very few people ruined the night for everyone else. shit happens unfortunately!

8 dec 06

many thanks to jerry from rebel truce for filling in for mark at the carling academy gig last week. he did an excellent job with no rehearsal!

We're all looking forward to the king tuts gig on 22nd dec - should be a good night.

28 november 06

we've been asked to play at the 30th anniversary punk tour supporting the rezillos, the damned, the beat, the meteors and gbh. it should be an excellent day for all punks - of a certain age! doors open at 5pm and the first band is on at 5.30. see you there.

plus we'll be playing at king tut's wah wah hut in the joe strummer tribute night. always a good night.

mark will not be here for the above gigs so we will have a guest singer for these two gigs. jerry from rebel truce has kindly agreed to stand in for mark on these nights - many thanks to jerry.

7 july 06

We've had to postpone some gigs again - sorry! The cumbernauld and kilmarnock gigs are off due to Mark being out of the country. We will rearrange these and post them as soon as they're confirmed.

The kirkcaldy gig is also off thanks to the venue changing into a restaurant! that's a new one!

keep watching the gig guide for further news. new mp3 files will be on the site soon from the strummercamp gig. we're also waiting for some video from that gig too. watch this space.

1 june 06

WELL THINGS WENT A BIT SOUTH LAST WEEK WITH MARK BEING STUCK SOMEWHERE OFF THE COAST OF ITALY IN SEVERE WEATHER. THIS MEANT THAT HE COULD NOT GET BACK TO SUNNY SCOTLAND IN TIME FOR THE BARROWLANDS GIG. APOLOGIES TO ALL WHO WERE EXPECTING TO SEE US. WE'RE ALL JUST AS PISSED OFF THAT IT DIDN'T HAPPEN. STILL, THERE'S ALWAYS NEXT YEAR......

Nov 2005

Unfortunately we cannot play in Perth next month. We will try to rearrange this gig for a future date.As some of you may have noticed, we've had a problem with our Forum recently. We have contacted the powers that be to get it sorted. It should be back up and running soon. Apologies to all who have missed it.....

The competition is now closed.

Oct 2005

New video clips uploaded with some new, interesting views....

Sept 2005

The band had a rehearsal last week for the first time in months (due to outside commitments). We ran through some new material including 'All the Young Punks', 'Revolution Rock', 'Cheapskates' and 'Wrong 'Em Boyo'. It all sounded excellent and we're looking forward to unleashing the new stuff at our next gigs. We're still working on new video/MP3 material for the site too - keep watching for updates.

Aug 2005

Thanks to some new software we'll soon have some MP3 files on the site. These will have songs from various gigs in the past few months. We'll also be putting some new video clips up soon too. Even though the band won't be playing til December we will be booking gigs for next year. If you want us to play in a town near you just contact us and we'll see what we can do.

Aug 2005

Due to circumstance beyond anyone's control the gigs in Newcastle have been cancelled. We apologise most profusely. This was dropped on us at the last minute and there was nothing we could do. We will try to rearrange them for a future time. Watch this space.......

July 2005

Unfortunately it appears that the Clashbash has been cancelled. According to the organisers there is a major problem with the venue and so they have pulled the plug. For more details go to Clashbash.

We have also had a few changes due to other commitments within the band. This has resulted in a few of our gigs being rearranged to other dates. Check the gig guide for details. We're all looking forward to coming down to Newcastle and Gateshead. We're told there are other Clash tributes in that neck of the woods - maybe we'll have a few pints together.......

July 2005

Due to unforeseen circumstances the gigs in Sheffield and Derby at the end of July are postponed to later in the year. Watch the gig guide for updates. Likewise with the Dublin and Cumbernauld gigs.

Thanks to all who came to the gig in Leith last Saturday. Unfortunately it was cut short by the local polis who said we were too loud !!!! What do they expect? A quiet little quartet with acoustics singing 'White Riot'!!!! Prior to the end, however, we played 'London's Burning'. A bit controversial given the recent situation in London but after discussion we figured that we shouldn't let the terrorists dictate our set list - that would be a (very) minor victory for those bastards which we could not tolerate. If you have any comments on this please go to the forum and let us know.

July 2005

The ClashBash web site is back - it can be found at www.clashtributes.com. Gad Zookz reliably informs us that everything is on track for a great day on Sept 10th. We're all looking forward to seeing all the other bands - it should a good laugh. See you all there.

June 2005

The band are about to head back down to Newport, Wales. After the great reception they got last year they are all looking forward to playing in TJ's there (where Joe and The Mescaleros played shortly before his untimely departure). They'll also playing be in the Counting House in Leicester on Friday 24th. Check the gig guide for more details.

May 2005

The band have been in the studio rehearsing some new material including The Magnificent Seven, Jimmy Jazz, Rudie Can't Fail, Cheapskates, The Leader and Police on my Back. They plan to expand their repertoire over the next few months and plan to play some of these live in the very near future.

They also plan to post some new video clips on the site very soon. Keep your eyes peeled in the Video page.

May 2005

Gad Zookz has finally confirmed the ClashBash which will take place this September in the QMU in Glasgow University. Combat Rock have agreed to take part in this extravaganza and will support Gad in his efforts to raise cash for trees - for Joe's forest (Rebel's Wood) in Skye. Go to ClashBash for more details.

May 2005

Thanks to Stevie we now have a much improved Forum for all the chat. Our last forum was a pain cos it didn't work properly. But, Stevie's sorted it with a new one from Outer Mongolia - much improved comrades. Enjoy and let us know what you think. Click on 'forum' and click on the picture of the geezer with the gun....

April 2005

We're planning some future gigs in London, Belfast, Bolton, Sheffield and Derby - keep watching this space. If you want us to play near you e-mail us and we'll try to organise something. Find a good venue with their contact details before you contact us.

March 2005

Finally, we have some video clips from various gigs including the last two Barrowlands' St Patrick's Day evenings with SLF. Check em out and let us know what you think.

March 17th

The only place to be is The Barrowlands, Glasgow. Combat Rock will be supporting Still Little Fingers for a great St. Patrick's Day night (if you know what I mean!). Hope to see you all there. If you go along and want to submit a review of the band please email it to us.

March 2005

Unfortunately, due to too many other commitments Bob has decided to leave the band. All the guys want to wish him well in his new ventures and to thank him for all his contributions. Cheers Bob.

January 2005

Happy New Year to all Combat Rock and Clash fans. The guys had a busy festive period playing the Joe Strummer Tribute Night in Glasgow and then a gig at Sneaky's Rock Garden in Airdrie.

A couple of words about the second gig. This was the first time I had been to this venue, and it is impressive. Nice stage area (except for the one pillar) and enough room to move about on the floor. The staff seem to enjoy the music and sing along too!

It was great to see Casey (Combat's former drummer) again and hope to see him at more gigs.

More gigs have been added to the gig guide, including my favourite gig.

October 2004

The band went all the way down to Newport in Gwent to play in the Baramber Club. What a great night! Those Welsh boyos know how to enjoy themselves. Afterwards we all went down to TJ's where Joe and the Mescaleros had played previously. Thanks to Rob and the gang. We'll be back soon enough.

July 2004

This month sees the band confirm more gigs in Glasgow, with a possibility of playing in Edinburgh in August. Which reminds me, what is the difference between Fred and the Edinburgh Festival?.........The Edinburgh Festival has a Fringe! (sorry Fred). More details available on the Gig Guide.

June 2004

Having completed another couple of gigs, the band have spread their wings and have confirmed dates to play South of the border. These dates are available on the gig guide page.

March 2004

Once again the band blew away the crowd at The Barrowlands. There is a full gig review on the gig review page.

The band played their first full gig this month at Burlington Berties in Kilmarnock. By all acounts it was a cracker with most people saying they are looking forward to future gigs.

February 2004

The band are rehearsing for the forthcoming gigs. New gigs have been added to the gig guide and can be viewed here. Amongst those gigs announced is my personal favourite - The Barrowlands supporting SLF on St. Patricks Night.

January 2004

A Happy New Year to all of the band members, past and present, all for all of those who have supported the band over the past couple of years.

December 2003

The band played their first gig with the new line up at King Tut's in Glasgow on Monday 22nd December. The gig was a charity event with all money raised going to the Joe Strummer charity fund.
The band will be announcing a new line up very soon.
The drummer, Casey, is leaving the band for personal reasons. Casey wishes to thank everyone who has followed and supported the band, and him personally, for the last few years.
I would like to wish Casey all the best and look forward to seeing him at Combat Rock gigs some time in the future.

November 2003

The gig guide page now has a link to a map which helps you find where the gig is.
